Indian train operator in flight deal

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is offering passengers who fail to get their wait-listed ticket confirmed an option to fly instead.

In a tie up with budget carrier GoAir, it already has sold about 100 tickets in the past month and plans to enroll other domestic air carriers in the scheme.

So far, the scheme applies to tickets booked at least three days prior to the date of the journey and flight tickets are available only for the day of the train journey or one day later.

Most Indian domestic airlines fly with about 20 per cent of their seats empty.
