Shambhala offers oriental program

The Como Shambhala Estate, Ubud, Bali residential health retreat has launched a traditional oriental medicine program.

Claiming an Asia-first among wellness resorts in Asia, the program offers customers a comprehensive healing itinerary based on classical oriental systems. Individual diagnosis-based programs will be created to suit each guest after a consultation with resident practitioner David Melladew. Programs include acupuncture, massage therapy, herbal medicine and nutritional advice, as well as specific exercises such as Qigong and meditation. Guests also have the opportunity to take part in the Estate’s daily complimentary schedule of activities.

The program will be led by oriental medicine practitioner Melladew. He said: “Traditional oriental medicine promotes health and wellbeing by balancing the physical, emotional and energy systems of the body. This program – claimed to be the first to be offered by any luxury retreat in Asia – can be used to relieve stress, prevent and treat a range of illnesses, and restore a sense of optimal wellbeing.”

A spokesperson for Como said American-born Melladew has extensive experience in traditional Asian medicine as well as a master’s degree in oriental medicine and is a certified and licensed acupuncturist.

The program, which can be undertaken over three to eight nights at the Estate, includes accommodation and all meals.
