Thailand considers mandatory travel insurance

The Thai government  may require foreign tourists to buy travel and health insurance before arriving in Thailand, with the costs included in visa fees, paid at immigration checkpoints or added to airline tickets.

A sub-committee has been set up to further develop a proposal made by health authorities.

The move follows concerns about the financial burden placed on the country's hospitals and health services in popular tourist areas.
