Transcaledonian set for July

The Transcaledonian is both a legendary running race and a program aimed at raising public awareness of the challenges of public fitness in New Caledonia. It crosses New Caledonia 06-07 July 2013.

The event is also designed  to raise public awareness of health problems along the route with native habitations and is supported by The Health Aware Association.

The trek is open to all.

More than 600 participants, divided into teams of three from New Caledonia, France and nearby countries including Australia are expected this year.

New Caledonia is considered to have the largest lagoon in the world which is listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The island, inhabited by 245,000 people, is classed fifth in the world for its biological treasures.
