New research on the value of medical tourism indicates it will rise to US$168 billion a year by 2015.

And a report by Global Tourism Analysts (GIA) reveals medical tourism is growing steadily - despite the financial crises affecting much of the world.

According to GIA, the countries with the greatest medical tourism potential are located in Asia and South America, while the most popular medical tourism destinations in the European area are Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania and Estonia.

Polish clinics and doctors reportedly provide high quality services to foreign patients for much cheaper prices than in western European countries.

For dental treatment, patients pay as much as 40 per cent less than charges in their home countries.

Foreign patients travelling to Poland for dental treatment usually come from western European countries including the UK and Germany. But there also are patients from Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland and the United States - the majority of them of Polish origin, according to medical tourism experts.
