Aid flies free to Ecuador

The Airlink relief organization has thanked charter carrier Atlas Air for its "generosity in providing free transportation for a shipment of life-saving medical supplies from Miami to Quito (Ecuador)”.


Steven Smith, executive director of Airlink said the cargo shipment held more than 6,200 pounds of humanitarian aid for earthquake victims.


The supplies were valued at approximately US$1.4 million and included antibiotics and medicines as well as basic medical supplies.


Airlink is working with more than 20 humanitarian aid organisations to support transportation of relief workers and material aid into Ecuador.


They include partnerships with Atlas Air, Avianca, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines.
