Amazon boosts airline stakes

E-retailer Amazon.com could take as much as a 30 per cent stake in Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, its second such deal this year after a potential 20 per cent in Air Transport Services and leasing 20 767s from that firm.

As part of this new agreement, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings also will operate 20 Boeing 767-300 cargo planes for Amazon, according to a statement from the airline.

The Seattle-based retailer will use the planes to expand its Prime service, which promises orders in as fast as one day for some orders.
