EasyJet reports first-half loss

Budget UK airline easyJet has reported a first-half net loss after the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels slowed bookings.

The airline saw a GBP20 million net loss for the six months ended March 31 after posting a GBP5 million profit in the year-ago period. Sales in the period were little changed at GBP1.77 billion after the airline grew capacity 7.5 per cent to carry 31 million passengers.

The airline was impacted by the suspension of British flights to the Sharm El Sheikh beach resort in Egypt after the bombing of a Russian plane there, as well as terror attacks in Paris and Brussels.

The northern summer months traditionally are the carrier's strongest.
