Emirates considers premium economy

Dubai-based Emirates says it is assessing whether it should introduce premium economy class.

"Clearly there’s a business case for looking seriously at premium economy," said Emirates ceo Tim Clark. No promises, but "we are looking at it”.

In its latest financial results, the airline reported a 56 per cent increase in profit and carried eight per cent more passengers than the previous year, but saw a 3.1 per cent drop in the number of seats filled.

If it goes ahead with premium economy, it will be the first of the major Gulf airlines to do so.
