United seeks Washington-Havana rights

US lobbyists and airlines are pushing the 'logic button' for flights between Washington DC and Havana, with the Obama administration now considering whether to allow a route to the island.

United Airlines, for one, believes there is a strong case for connecting the lawmakers and diplomats in the two capitals, while James Williams, president of Engage Cuba, said flights out of Washington would provide a “symbolic connection that ties the two capitals together because the future of the US-Cuba relationship is going to be determined by the lawmakers in both these capitals.

"Having these two cities connected much more closely and easily is going to do a lot for the relationship.”
Travel to Cuba is still subject to restrictions, despite the new US policy toward the island, with tourism still prohibited.
