Monarch given Atol extension

The UK's Monarch Airlines has been thrown a lifeline by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulator with a temporary extension to its Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (Atol), which ran out at the end of September.

Monarch had said just before the deadline that it had “received significant further investment from shareholders” and the CAA then demanded the shareholders put up the money.

The CAA also extended Monarch’s existing licence for 12 days. Monarch now has to prove it has adequate backing and if it is able to do so, its full-year Atol licence will be renewed.
