Japan doubles arrivals target after cruise, LCC numbers spike

Japan has raised its 2020 international visitor targets after the number of arrivals coming to the country on low-cost carriers (LCCs) and cruise ships rose sharply.

It now expects to see 24 million visitors by the end of this year.

The government previously set a target of just 20 million visitors by the year 2020, but the new target is 40 million foreign arrivals for the year that Tokyo hosts the Olympic Games.
