Etihad, Oman Tourism host Australian PCOs on upmarket famil

Etihad Airways has partnered with Oman Tourism to show professional conference organisers (PCO) the potential of the Sultanate of Oman as a MICE destination.
Group visits and inspections included Al Husn (The Castle) at Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa.
Mona Tannous, Oman Tourism’s manager Australia and New Zealand said the resort is set on 124 acres and is home to three hotels: Al Waha, ‘The Oasis’, is recommended for families, Al Bandar, ‘The Town’, is ideal for leisure and business travellers and Al Husn, The Castle, is a exclusive retreat providing the highest level of luxury and elegant hospitality.

"With more than 22 bars and restaurants, the hotels’ dedicated MICE and leisure facilities were perfectly showcased to the select group. A short distance from Muscat and with 640 rooms, there are many choices available for MICE groups and leisure travellers,” she said.

Muscat’s major cultural and architectural sites, such as the Grand Mosque and the Mutrah Souk, one of the oldest in the Arabian world, were also tour highlights.
Golf is a popular option in the Omani capital, with the Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club one of three PGA championship golf courses in the country.

The PCOs also had a further opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Gulf of Oman on a dolphin-watching cruise and a visit to the Oasis city of Nizwa. Nizwa’s imposing structures are just part of Oman’s estimated 500 forts, castles and towers.

The group also inspected the Anantara Al Jabel Al Akhdar Resort. Newly opened last month by Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas, the five-star resort takes its name from the towering massif of Al Jabal Al Akhdar (Arabic for ‘Green Mountain’) on the vast Saiq Plateau.
