Lufthansa ready to take over Brussels Airlines

Germany's Lufthansa is ready to take over Brussels Airlines, the Belgian carrier says.

"A deal has been reached," a spokesperson for Brussels Airlines said.

Lufthansa bought 45 per cent of Brussels Airlines in 2009 for EUR65 million, with an option to acquire the rest.

The buy will take Brussels Air into Lufthansa's budget Eurowings division.

The deal for Brussels Airlines complements a plan to lease 35 planes and crew from Air Berlin. It will see Eurowings grow to more than 160 planes from its current 90 aircraft by the end of next year.
