Lloyds threatens to blacklist Nigeria's domestic carriers

Insurer Lloyd's of London is threatening to blacklist Nigerian domestic carriers for irregular payment of premiums.

Lloyds said the volume of business from the country was "quite small and airline brokers are not paying their premiums".

The threat could close the country's entire domestic airline fleet.

An airline spokesman said: "What is happening is similar to the foreign exchange constraint we have been experiencing.

"We also pay our premium in dollars, which we can't pay due to the non-availability of forex.

"The whole domestic network may just collapse."

Airlies have called on the minister for State Aviation to bail out the affected carriers.
