The USA's Department of Homeland Security's report 'Unclaimed Money at Airports' says that the TSA collected US$765,759 in loose change left at airport security checkpoints in 2015 alone.
It appears many passengers forget about the change they take out of their pockets at checkpoints and leave it behind.
According to the DHS report, it’s standard TSA policy to try and return items including money to passengers, but unreturned money goes to the Department of Homeland Security.
