BA ends free meals, easyJet claims pricing advantage

On the day UK carrier British Airways started charging for catering on domestic and European services, budget rival easyJet has claimed its own in-flight food is better value.

BA is now selling supermarket snacks ranging from a GBP1 packet of crisps to a GBP4.95 'buffalo mozzarella and tomato focaccia'.

A cup of tea or coffee costs GBP2.30, a 330ml can of beer GBP4, a quarter-bottle of wine, GBP4.50 and a gin and tonic GBP6.

An easyJet spokesperson said: “EasyJet’s business model has always been based around passengers choosing to pay only for what they want, including on-board food.

“We have a wide range of food and drinks on offer at competitive prices and often (giving) better value than our competitors.”

British Airways has refuted the budget carrier's claims.
