EasyJet says passengers should bypass complaints middlemen

The UK's easyJet has topped a recent list of 'most complained about' airlines, according to flight compensation company EUclaim, which says it received 15,499 compensation enquiries about the carrier.

EasyJet has since called on customers to bypass third party complaints firms and claim direct.

Ireland's Ryanair was second with 9,887 claims and third was full-service carrier British Airways.

Thomas Cook - which topped the list in 2015 - was the most improved airline with 2,000 fewer claims.

An easyJet spokeswoman said: “easyJet carries more passengers in the UK than the other carriers listed.

“In 2016 easyJet saw unprecedented levels of disruption due to factors outside our control such as French air traffic controller strikes and air traffic congestion in the London area and in Europe.

“We always pay compensation when it is due and strongly recommend customers to apply to easyJet direct, rather than going through firms like EUclaim so they (passengers) receive all of the compensation and avoid paying fees.”
