Argentina set to open its skies

Argentina’s civil aviation authority says it has approved 135 new routes for five budget airlines that are tipped to invest US$1.7 billion there in the next four years.

Pending a green light from the transportation ministry, the new airlines will be FB Líneas Aéreas, Andes Líneas Aéreas, American Jet, Alas del Sur and Avian Líneas Aéreas, which is the local unit of Avianca Holdings.

Low cost airlines from other parts of the world including Europe's Norwegian Air Shuttle also are expected to request flying rights.
