Qatar dumps oneworld baggage rule

From March 1, Qatar Airways is dropping the oneworld alliance's baggage rules for connecting flights.

The airline will once again transfer passengers' checked baggage from a Qatar Airways flight on to a connecting flight on another oneworld carrier even when the flights are booked on separate tickets - as long as the flights meet minimum connection time (MCT) criteria.

Under the current rules, passengers connecting from any oneworld airline to another need to have both flights on the same booking to have their hold luggage transferred for them.

A spokesperson for Qatar Airways said: "Qatar Airways is pleased to offer passengers the courtesy of through-check of themselves and their bags to their final destination when travelling on multi-sector journeys involving connections onto other oneworld member airlines, even when the trip is booked using separate tickets."

The change won't necessarily apply if the first sector is on another oneworld carrier connecting to a Qatar flight.
