Qantas postpones wifi launch

Qantas says it has had to postpone its in-flight wifi launch due to stability issues.

The airline now is working with Australian broadband entity company National Broadband Network (NBN) and ViaSat to resolve the issues.

The scheduled wifi roll out to the fleet is still due to commence mid-2017.

Qantas said last year it would equip Boeing 737-800s and Airbus A330s domestic fleet with wifi using NBN and ViaSat's global satellite network. The service would be free and passengers also would be able to stream television programs.

By mid-2017, rival Virgin Australia also has promised wifi for its 737, 777-300ER and A330 fleet. Pricing has not yet been announced.
