Following the Zika outbreak in Florida, USA last summer, researchers from the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention say they found a 21 per cent increase in the number of counties with Zika-carrying mosquitoes.
There was also a 10 per cent increase in counties with dengue fever-spreading mosquitoes.
Areas in the US now flagged for extra surveillance include California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Florida and the other Gulf Coast states, plus certain Mid-Atlantic states.
