Vantiv takeover creates massive payments company

The US firm Vantiv's US$10.4 billion takeover of Worldpay, a UK-based payments processing company, will see the combined company called Worldpay.
Worldpay claims to be a market leader among UK payment providers in the travel industry with customers including British Airways, Emirates, HK Express, Beijing Capital Airlines and BMI Regional.

The companies' markets had little overlap, with Worldpay claiming to be the largest acquirer of card transactions generated at merchants outside the US and Vantiv claiming to be the largest acquirer of merchants’ card transactions in the US.

Worldpay focuses on five verticals: Travel, airlines, retail, digital (e-commerce shops) and the gaming industry and the combined operation of Vantiv and Worldpay will focus on digital payments. The company anticipates benefits of scale as the world’s largest processor in terms of number of transactions.

Worldpay also plans to invest further in partnerships with global distribution systems (GDS) Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport and also airline back-end services providers such as the Airlines Reporting Corp (ARC), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and finance firms.
