Virgin first with off-airport check in system

IT provider Amadeus says Virgin Australia is the first airline to use the 'pop-up' baggage check-in service it developed jointly with Australian aviation tech company OACIS (Off Airport Check-in Solutions).
The service allows passengers to check in and drop off baggage for any airline away from airports, using cloud-based technology to access airlines’ check-in systems.

OACIS can be set up in any location including a hotel, train station or conference site. The service checks in the passenger and baggage ahead of time and then according to the company, “securely transports their bags to the airport and places them in the airport baggage system”.

Virgin is starting with a pilot program in Sydney for cruise ship passengers connecting to Virgin Australia flights.
