Airlines switch routes as Israel ponders attack response

Airlines are counting the added costs of route changes on flights between Europe and Asia after what have so far been temporary airspace closures in the wake of the weekend's Iranian attack on Israel.

On Saturday, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon temporarily closed their airspace, while Israel and Iran imposed restrictions on theirs.

Australia's Qantas, Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Germany's Lufthansa all made route changes.

The route changes add to complexity and cost challenges that began after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Israel has threatened retaliation for the Iran attack.
