AAPA says March capacity stable, but loads down 7.5pc

Preliminary monthly traffic figures from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) indicate airfreight capacity remained relatively stable in March, with a 0.2 per cent year-on-year decline and an average international freight load factor down 7.5 percentage points to 63.2 per cent.

Hactl in sniffer dog initiative

Qatar Airways Cargo and its ground handler Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Hactl) have teamed up to provide an extra layer of security for the airline’s ex-Hong Kong flights, using technical detection dogs to sniff out hidden lithium batteries in air cargo. 
The detection service is being provided by MSA Security, which now operates a team of security experts and sniffer dogs within a dedicated area of Hactl’s SuperTerminal 1 facility. The dogs are trained to detect specific odours, resulting in their ability to detect lithium batteries, whether they are in loose, palletised or containerised cargo. 

A technical detection dog at Hactl SuperTerminal 1 inspects a pallet of export cargo for any concealed lithium batteries.
