DETA appoints Hactl

Kazakhstan-based freighter carrier DETA Air has appointed Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (Hactl) to handle cargo ground handling at Hong Kong International Airport, including physical cargo handling, air cargo documentation, ramp handling and crew bus services. DETA Air currently operates a twice-weekly DC-10 freighter service routing of Almaty - Hong Kong - Almaty – Istanbul.

Mercury inks Red Orange deal

USA-based Mercury Air Group has inked an alliance with Dubai-based Red Orange to provide freight logistics services into Iraq and Afghanistan. The alliance combines Mercury's wholly-owned subsidiaries, Mercury Air Cargo and Maytag Aircraft Corporation with Red Orange to provide services into hostile regions in the Middle East and North Africa.

The new Obama administration in the USA is making changes to the workplace. According to a USA Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report, raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on businesses are catching illegal immigrants and creating jobs for legal locals. Prosecutions referred by ICE were up dramatically in June — a 47 per cent increase from the previous month, and a 109.6 per cent increase from five years ago.

After a 13 per cent drop in July cargo revenue, the Air Transport Association of America now says its members' passenger numbers dropped six per cent and revenue fell 21 per cent in August compared to the year-earlier result as carriers cut fares by double-digit percentages.  August cargo figures are not yet available.

Samoan airline South Pacific Express (SPEX), has suspended flight operations.  Ceo John McNeely said in a statement that flight operations have been placed on hold, leaving only Polynesian and Inter Island Air flying between Samoa and American Samoa.
