Finnair to shed 500 jobs

Finland’s Finnair has reported an eight point drop in load factor and announced 500 layoffs.
Chief executive officer Jukka Hieonen described May as “disastrous” with a 62.4 per cent load factor.  The carrier says it needs to make additional cost savings of at least US$78m.

Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair traffic figures for May 2008 showed a positive growth in the number of passengers carried by the two airlines, though growth failed to keep pace with the increase in capacity. The increase in cargo tonnage, however, was higher than the capacity increase.
