IJS multi-modal freight forwarder IJS Global has expanded into the Australian market by acquiring majority ownership of Sydney-based Lynair International. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Under the deal Lynair will be re-branded Lynair-IJS Global.

IATA amends carrier liabilities under Conditions of Contract

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has approved and declared effective amendments to a carrier’s liabilities under the Conditions of Contract (Cargo Services Conference Resolution 600b). Resolution 600b is the abbreviated and modernised ‘Conditions of Contract’ that invokes both Warsaw Convention and Montreal Convention.

Alan Miu has been appointed country general manager (CGM) for TNT Express, Thailand.  Prior to his new role Miu was based in the TNT regional office in Singapore where he was in charge of regional Customs operations. As CGM, Miu will focus on boosting growth. His responsibilities include managing TNT’s overall country strategies, operations, sales, marketing and customer service activities in Thailand.

Cathay Pacific Cargo in Melbourne has appointed two new cargo service agents. Nicholas Donnison (21) is new to the industry and studying for a Bachelor of Technology degree in Air Transport at Swinburne University. Also joining the carrier (on October 08) is Trisha Bethany. Bethany was previously with SIA Cargo in Brisbane and prior to that with Cathay Pacific Cargo in London.

SriLankan Cargo reports a sharp rise in the export of perishable goods from Sri Lanka. According to SriLankan Airlines Cargo head Nalin Rodrigo, the country experienced a 34 per cent growth in exports of fruit, vegetables, flowers and fish during the first three months of 2007 compared to the same period last year. As a result, the company has redesigned its air freight pallets to increase carrying capacity by 15 per cent.
