Lufthansa and Deutsche Post are to launch a cargo carrier focused on airfreight and express shipments in and out of Asia. The airline will be jointly owned by Lufthansa Cargo and Post's DHL Express parcel delivery division and will operate 11 Boeing 777-200LRF aircraft. Flights will begin in April 2009.

Singapore Airlines reported overall cargo traffic in August (measured in freight tonne kilometres) continued to register growth of 5.3 per cent, outpacing its system-wide capacity growth of 4.1 per cent. This resulted in modest growth in cargo load factor (CLF) of 0.7 percentage points.

Qantas not in discussions with Linfox

Qantas has rebutted market speculation that it has been in recent discussions to purchase the Linfox Group. Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon said the carrier and Linfox had discussed a broad range of company-to-company issues more than 12 months ago.
“No discussions have been held since then and none are planned,” said Dixon.
