Asia to lead global cargo growth

IATA estimates that air cargo will grow at an average of 5.3 per cent for the 2006-2010 period. Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) speaking at the opening of the World Cargo Symposium in Mexico City, said the majority of growth will be in Asia with intra-Asia routes accounting for 8.3 million tonnes of cargo (26 per cent of the global total) by 2010.
