Nils Pries Knudsen, 46, has been appointed vice president and new head of global sales for SAS Cargo. He will be based in Copenhagen and responsible for the global sales force of 160 persons in Europe, North America and Asia. Knudsen was previously director of freight with DHL Express in charge of land-based freight within Europe.

BAWC reports lower freight revenue

British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has reported commercial revenues (flown revenues plus fuel surcharges) of £161.6 million for the third quarter, a decrease of 8.5 per cent against the same period last year. After the impact of exchange rate movements is removed, commercial revenues were down by 3.8 per cent.

Djibouti added to Emirates freighter network

The East-African city of Djibouti will join Emirates Skycargo freighter network from 18 February. The carrier will operate a once-a –week A310-300F (EK 4805) departing Dubai at 0700  hours, arriving in Djibouti at 0900 hours on the same day.

Lufthansa Cargo subsidiary to compete for handling contracts

Lufthansa Cargo has set up a company to provide freight handling services for itself as
well as for air freight forwarders. The new Handling Counts GmbH, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo, will begin operating initially at the Frankfurt base but
intends to extend its activities across the whole of Germany throughout the year.
