Swiss logistics firm Kuehne + Nagel says it is preparing further cost cutting measures after a “severe recession-related decline” in sea and air freight volumes caused a 17 per cent fall in first quarter net earnings - to US$86 million - compared with US$133 million in the first three months of 2008.

Japan Airlines to seek loans?

Japan Airlines is seeking about US$2 billion in low-interest loans from the Japanese government’s state-backed Development Bank of Japan and public broadcaster NHK, Asahi newspaper reported - without identifying its sources. The money would be used to fund aircraft acquisitions and redeem bonds, NHK said. In addition, cost-cutting measures may be introduced.
