China Southern to save US$1bn

China’s China Southern Airlines, the nation’s biggest airline, says it will save US$1 billion by delaying deliveries of five Airbus A380s and 13 Boeing 787s till at least 2011.  It also wants to delay delivery of four Boeing 777 freighters due this year.

EC sets BMI deadline

The European Commission has set a May 14 provisional deadline for its initial review of Germany’s Lufthansa’s intended buy of a further 50 per cent of UK carrier BMI, taking its total BMI shareholding to 80 per cent. The regulator also is reviewing Lufthansa's planned takeover of SN Airholding, the parent company of Brussels Airlines.

Vietnam’s flag carrier Vietnam Airlines says it will initiate negotiations with planemaker Airbus for 10 A321-200 aircraft after the country's prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved a plan for the airline to buy the planes, for delivery between 2011 and 2014.
