Chinese may opt for smaller cargo planes

Chinese airlines will respect signed contracts for aircraft orders, but negotiate timing of deliveries and some carriers may choose smaller cargo aircraft instead of bigger ones to cope with a downturn in cargo traffic, the head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China said.

US forwarder Expeditors has filed annual returns indicating airfreight volumes for the 2008 year fell four per cent, which one analyst interpreted as suggesting a fourth-quarter decline of nearly 20 per cent, particularly in Asia. He added he still expected Expeditors' shares to outperform rival companies because of a better business platform.
