Southwest fined US$7.5m

US carrier Southwest Airlines will pay a fine of US$7.5 million over two years for flying 46 planes that had missed crucial safety checks on a total of 59,791 flights. The fine, by the Federal Aviation Administration, is US$2.5 million less than originally levied.

Zurich on e-freight

Switzerland’s Zurich Airport has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) e-freight program. In the second half of February, its first e-freight compliant transactions were performed on the trade lanes between Zurich Airport and Chicago, Hong Kong, Singapore and London.

DHL parent Deutsche Post of Germany has posted a 2008 net loss of EUR1.7 billion against net earnings of EUR1.4 billion in 2007. Its exit costs from the DHL Express USA market contributed. The company also says 2009’s outlook is “unpredictable”.

TNT India in road switch
