Aerolineas Argentinas has been fined NZ$11,000 in a New Zealand court after pleading guilty to failing to supply in a timely manner alleged cargo cartel information requested by the country’s Commerce Commission.

Lan to pay US$88m

Chilean carrier Lan will pay a fine of US$88 million to settle US government claims of cargo price-fixing and has confirmed airfreight company Aerolinhas Brasileiras, in which it has an equity stake, has agreed to pay a US$21 million fine. Both sets of payments will be phased over five years.

European reports say Alitalia’s bankruptcy administrator is close to selling its cargo unit to Alis Aerolinee Italiane, an Italian all-cargo carrier prepared to buy three of Alitalia’s five freighters and other assets. The cargo unit, Europe’s seventh-largest, posted a loss of EUR16 million in 2007.
