European competition regulators have cleared the Air France group’s KLM purchase of airline Martinair Holland. "I was very conscious of the need to safeguard the interests of consumers flying to long-haul holiday destinations," EU Competition commissioner Neelie Kroes said in a statement.

Cargolux Airlines has launched a third weekly flight out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, USA to Luxembourg.  The route expansion will have a US$3 million economic impact, airport officials said, with the carrier picking up an additional 70 tons of freight per week.

US carrier Delta is to launch nonstop services between Detroit, USA and Rome's Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Italy on June 4, 2009. The flight will complement Delta's existing nonstop daily service between Rome and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and twice daily nonstops from New York's John F Kennedy-JFK International Airport.
