Air New Zealand has denied involvement in price-fixing or any other cartel-type behaviour, in the wake of a strongly worded announcement by New Zealand’s Commerce Commission that it was taking High Court legal action against Air New Zealand, 12 other carriers and seven individual airline staffers.

CAAS extends S$130 million relief package to airlines

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has extended and expanded its existing Air Hub Development Fund (AHDF), which was due to expire on 31 December 2008.  AHDF will be extended by another year until 31 December 2009, with an expanded budget of S$130 million.  This represents a 30 per cent increase over the S$100 million annual budget under the AHDF for 2006-2008.  Airlines also stand to benefit from enhanced incentives that CAAS will be introducing under the fund's extension.

Euro Carex (Cargo Rail Express) - a project to create a pan-European high speed rail service for express and air cargo that currently is handled by truck and air – has taken a step forward after France, Belgium and the Netherlands pledged more than EUR90 million towards construction of rail terminals at Paris Roissy-CDG, Liège and Amsterdam Schiphol airports. -Jack Handley

Canada’s Federal Transport minister John Baird has announced London International Airport has been approved to participate in the country’s international air cargo trans-shipment program, which allows international air cargo to be moved through selected Canadian airports for shipment to third countries.

UK carrier Virgin Atlantic has confirmed it is in talks with Germany’s Lufthansa aimed at collaborating in some way because their route networks have little or no overlap and Lufthansa’s recently-won control of British carrier BMI gives the two airlines the ability to better compete with British Airways out of London Heathrow, UK.
