Japan Airlines posted a group net loss of JPY63.2 billion (US$649 million) for the 12 months to end March. The loss was in contrast to last year's JPY16.9 billion profit.

Call to ground trafficker carriers

A Swedish-based peace research institute claims some of the companies that transport humanitarian aid for relief agencies are linked to alleged arms trafficking and it has recommended the European Union "utilise its existing air safety regulations to put companies involved in arms trafficking or destabilising commodity flows out of business."

Nippon Express down 30 per cent

Japanese freight forwarder Nippon Express has reported lower profits and sales for the fiscal 2008 year. Operating profit was down 30.9 per cent to US$337 million and net profit was down 58.4 per cent to US$153 million. Group sales totalled about US$18.4 billion, down 3.8 per cent from fiscal 2007.
