Norwegian opts for Gatwick

Scandinavian carrier Norwegian has announced flights from UK’s London Gatwick to Copenhagen and five other Nordic destinations. From March, it will fly to Copenhagen (twice per day), Oslo (three times per day), Bergen/Stavanger/Aalborg (each once per day) and Tromso twice per week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has reported commercial revenue (flown revenue plus fuel surcharges) of GBP536.6 million for the nine months ending December 31, 2008, an increase of 18.3 per cent against the same period in 2007. Excluding the impact of exchange rate movements, commercial revenues were up 12 per cent.

Chinese buyer for Air Tanzania

Tanzania plans to sell a 49 per cent stake in state-run Air Tanzania to Chinese firm China Sonangol International, which will help the carrier buy nine planes.
The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) suspended the carrier's operating licence in December, but the airline has since resumed operations.

Cathay to boost Thailand services

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific and sister carrier Dragon Air are to raise capacity to Thailand, despite the fact their traffic through Bangkok is filling only around 60 per cent of available seats and cargo – since the airports blockade last year – has dropped by 30-40 per cent, the Bangkok Post says.
