An American Kalitta air cargo 747 slid off the runway during take-off at Brussels' Zaventem airport on Sunday and broke in two, but there were no severe casualties, officials said. The five crew escaped via an inflatable emergency slide, four with minor injuries.

Scandinavian airline SAS has asked suppliers for a 10 per cent discount on goods and services to help offset rocketing fuel prices. The company said it had informed suppliers in a letter, and that SAS in exchange "hopes to strengthen its relations and extend its cooperation with the suppliers that choose to contribute."
