Germanys Lufthansa Cargo and US-based World Airways have renewed a 15-month contract beginning July 1, 2008 for three World Airways MD-11 freighters to operate Europe-US for Lufthansa Cargo. Lufthansa Cargo also operates another 19 MD-11 freighters.

Italian all-freight airline Cargoitalia is believed to be searching for a buyer. Chief executive officer Massimo Panagia reportedly has left the company at the urging of shareholders and chairman Stan Wraight said his company’s contract with the carrier had been terminated, again by the shareholders.

India’s airlines reportedly are investigating international markets for growth opportunities for cargo and passenger operations in order to protect their businesses. Air India, for example, wants cargo to account for an extra four per cent of revenues, up from six per cent to 10 per cent.

OAG Analytical Services, part of Official Airline Guide, has released its third annual OAG Global Air Freight Forecast which projects trends in air freight demand and fleet for 2008-2017.  “Amid soaring fuel prices and economic uncertainty, the projections for the next decade reveal some light at the end of the tunnel,” says Tulinda Larsen, managing director, OAG Analytical Services.

The Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA)  has alerted the Australian Customs Service (Customs)  regarding a limitation in use of electronic data interchange (EDI) software applications for communication of amendments to import declarations to the Integrated Cargo System (ICS). Currently the ICS will fail any import declaration where the date of first arrival is greater than two years before the system date for lodgement.
