Customs acts to fix ICS glitches

The Australian Customs Service (Customs) says Integrated Cargo System (ICS) EDI reference files on the Cargo Support website are out of date and this may impact on the use of exchange rate calculations on Import Declarations through the use of third party software applications. Customs has suggested as an interim workaround forwarders use the ICS Customs Interactive (CI) which contains up to date reference information.

As oil and avgas prices soar - it is estimated each US$1 increase in the oil price adds an additional US$465 million in fuel expenses for passenger and cargo airlines - US carrier American Airlines says it intends to slash domestic capacity by 11 to 12 per cent in the fourth quarter, ground aircraft and to fire staff.

Cartel price fixing fund drags Martinair figures down

Dutch carrier Martinair has reported a 68.9 million (US$107.2 million) loss for 2007, saying one-off costs associated with the renewal of its cargo fleet and the discontinuation of European passenger flights last year along with monies set aside to deal with the multinational investigation into airfreight price fixing, "brought considerable pressure to bear upon results."
