Air Canada pet ban overturned

Air Canada's proposed domestic ban on small pets as cargo on passenger jets has been overturned by the Canadian Transportation Agency as ‘unreasonable’. Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick said the airline is reviewing the ruling and he did not know if the airline will appeal.

Indiana, USA-based ATA has cancelled all flights and filed for bankruptcy. At one time it was the USA’s 10th-largest airline and most recently had approximately 50 flights per day, mostly between Hawaii and four west coast cities -- Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Alitalia close to the edge

Alitalia is close to bankruptcy. The Italian government has said it will try to get the Air France group and Alitalia unions back round the negotiating table, but if that fails, Italian analysts said bankruptcy protection appeared the most likely outcome. Air France group broke off talks to buy the struggling airline and Alitalia's chairman of seven months resigned in frustration earlier this week.

United Airlines has grounded  all 52 B777 aircraft in its fleet for maintenance checks and advised customers to consider changing travel plans where flights are subject to delays and cancellations. The airline has waived fees for changing flights and customers booked on cancelled flights are eligible for a full refund.
