American Airlines Cargo has been awarded ‘International Airline of the Year’ by the Express Delivery and Logistics Association (XLA) at its annual AirCargo 2008 Conference in Orlando, USA.
XLA awards are determined by an annual survey of XLA members who use the services of carriers for express deliveries around the world.- Jack Handley

Pudong opens new facilities

Shanghai, China’s Pudong International Airport’s second phase opens its cargo facility, new terminal and runway next Wednesday.
The terminal will more than double the number of passengers the airport can handle -- from the current 28 million to 60 million a year -- and its cargo handling capacity will rise to 3.7 million tons per year.

China's fourth biggest carrier, Hainan Airlines, said last year’s net profit was up almost 400 per cent on 2006, with net income hitting 651.4 million yuan (AU$100 million), up from 166.8 million yuan.

Russia's freight traffic grew 6.3 per cent to nearly 2.5 trillion tonne-kilometres – equal to 12bn tonnes of freight -- in 2007 compared to a year earlier.
Commercial airfreight traffic rose more than 16 per cent.

Korean links LAX, GRU

Korean Air is to operate new, non-stop services from June 2 between Los Angeles, USA (LAX) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (GRU).
Subject to government approvals, KE061 will operate Monday-Wednesday-Friday flights between LAX and GRU using Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The new service will provide an important air cargo connection between Asia and Brazil that will generate a significant positive economic impact on the Southern California economy, said Korean Air.
