AFIF suggests additional wording for air cargo HAWB

The Australian Federation of International Forwarders (AFIF) is not entirely satisfied with the wording of the new IATA Conditions of Contract that came into force yesterday under IATA Resolution 600B and has suggested further wording be added to the face of the forwarder HAWB (or Neutral AWB, where used as a HAWB).

AMI buys out South African partner

AMI has acquired its Johannesburg, South Africa-based service partner MMA Consolidators Pty Ltd. Founded in 2002, in its first two years MMA grew from 2 to 30 employees. It opened additional stations in Cape Town (January 2004) and Durban (September 2006), the latter operating as a satellite office handling sales and reservations and performing local collections and deliveries.

Singapore reviews Calcutta Calcutta plan

After the Airports Authority of India asked airlines to pay late fees for keeping goods in its Calcutta warehouse during the March 12-13 staff strike, Singapore Airlines says it may delay plans to introduce an additional freighter service to the city. Affected airlines said the cargo could not be cleared because the airport’s staff were not available.
The fine was subsequently waived, but many airlines and agents suffered losses running into tens of millions of rupees. –Jack Handley

Blue Dart adds 32 per cent capacity

India’s Blue Dart is to replace its existing B737 fleet of four with B757s, boosting cargo-carrying capacity by around 32 per cent. The move will be funded internally and the carrier is working with parent DHL to assess whether the aircraft can be deployed internationally.

Poor price for Alitalia

Alitalia has agreed to a takeover by Air France-KLM that values the Italian airline at US$183.8 million, or 0.10 euro a share.
The bid carries significant financial conditions including the purchase of Alitalia’s convertible bonds at market rates, worth around Euro 608 million and a Euro 1 billion rights issue fully guaranteed by Air France-KLM.

Emirates SkyCargo manager Australia and New Zealand Glenn Baxter has resigned and left the company. He advised his intention to resign last Friday and under company policy was asked to leave the same day. Melbourne-based Baxter, who was the carrier’s inaugural cargo manager when the airline began flying to Australia, is expected to take a teaching postion with the Melbourne University.
