Lufthansa Cargo forms alliance

According to Financial Times Deutschland, Lufthansa Cargo is planning a freight alliance, combining its Chinese Jade Cargo unit and Swiss World Cargo with Aerologic, which it owns with Deutsche Post AG.
The new group will have 36 freighters and access to belly space in 400 passenger planes. Launch is planned 2010.

A US law firm says it has settled a cargo price-fixing case with Lufthansa. Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld & Toll says it reached a US$85 million (€53.9 million) settlement for customers who purchased air freight shipping services from the airline for transport of goods to, from and within the United States.

New freighter routes for Etihad

Etihad Crystal Cargo will launch freighter operations to the Nigerian city of Lagos on 31 March and the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on 02 April. Lagos flights will be operated by MD11F aircraft with a capacity of 85 tonnes.

The Dubai government is to set up a low-cost airline (LCC) managed by Emirates Airline.  The new company will be headed by Emirates’ commercial operations director Ghaith al-Ghaith and its fares set at competitive levels to attract budget travellers from the Arab world and the Indian subcontinent.

Air France group in Alitalia union talks

Air France-KLM is to hold talks with Alitalia unions that are upset by plans to scrap Alitalia’s freight operations and break up its maintenance unit, with the loss of about 1,600 jobs.
The Italian government earlier this week approved the Air France group takeover through a share swap of one Air France-KLM share for every 160 Alitalia shares.
Air France-KLM wants an agreement with the unions by March 31.
