Cathay adds Hanoi, Dhaka

Cathay Pacific has launched twice-weekly B747-200 freighter services to Hanoi and Dhaka. As part of its plan to strengthen its cargo services by adding new destinations and aircraft, the airline ordered 10 B747-8 aircraft in November and will receive delivery of the first of six new Boeing 747-400 extended-range freighters this year.

Progress is proving slow in automating the air freight business, air freight executives attending the IATA World Cargo symposium have been told. Barely two-thirds of the airlines claiming membership to the IATA Cargo 2000 initiative (C2K) are consistently applying the procedures prescribed for higher quality and efficiency in the air freight sector. In the case of air freight forwarders, only seven out of 12 members are open to systematic monitoring and control methods in their operational business, according to statistics compiled by the worldwide association.

Air France-KLM says February cargo traffic was up 7.8 per cent for the group, with positive results from the Americas, Africa and Middle East networks. Capacity increased by 6.5 per cent while load factor stood at 68.7 per cent, a 0.8 per cent increase. The group carried 118,224 tonnes, up 7.6 per cent.
