China Southern to ink Air France-KLM deal this year?

China Southern Airlines and Air France-KLM hope to finalise a joint venture cargo business this year, the Chinese carrier's chairman said this week.
"We hope that we can sign the deal this year," Liu Shaoyong, chairman of China Southern, told reporters. "Our discussions are going smoothly." –Jack Handley

SkyAirWorld flags Solomon cargo run

Australia-based SkyAirWorld entered the Australia-Solomon Islands run this week and has flagged its intention to extend services from Honiara to Munda and to carry cargo as well as passengers.
Initially, the airline will fly five times a week (excluding Saturday and Sunday) from Brisbane to Honiara using 94-seater Embraer Jet equipment.

Cathay Pacific Airways has announced a profit attributable to shareholders of HK$7,023 million in its 2007 annual results, compared to a profit of HK$4,088 million the previous year. The 2007 result, the first to include a full year’s contribution from wholly-owned subsidiary Dragonair, is a record annual profit for the Cathay Pacific Group.

The 2008 edition of Air Cargo China 2008 – to be held 17-19 June in Shanghai -- will be 50 per cent larger than the previous event in 2006. Leading air cargo companies including Air China, Emirates, Lufthansa, Mascargo and Thai Airways will attend, as will logistics hubs such as the International Cargo Centre Shenzhen, the Dubai Logistics City, the airports of Vienna, Atlanta and Munich and the Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminal, all of which will showcase their services and innovations.

Malaysia is to import a pair of specially trained dogs to detect pirated DVDs. The two dogs, from Northern Ireland, are trained to smell the chemicals that are used in DVD production.
They dogs can’t tell pirated from legitimate DVDs, but they have been trained to alert authorities to large stashes of discs in luggage and cargo. They are claimed to be the world's first permanent canine national anti-piracy unit. –Jack Handley
